Sendero Health Plans is a community-based, non-profit health insurance company in central Texas that serves Medicaid and CHIP clients and provides affordable healthcare coverage through the ACA health insurance marketplace.
The partnership with UT System Population Health brings a population health perspective to improving the health of Sendero’s member populations. Established in June 2016, the partnership is developing and implementing focused research and quality improvement projects in the following three areas: maternal/reproductive health; wellness/primary prevention; and management of chronic conditions.
Initial projects include:
• Investigating the effectiveness of a seasonal influenza vaccination promotion campaign
• Helping Medicaid-enrolled pregnant women obtain desired immediate postpartum long-acting reversible contraception
This partnership also serves as a gateway for students and researchers to participate in applied population health research by providing student internship and work placement opportunities, and facilitating faculty and student research projects benefiting community health plan members.
